I’ve always been a fan of “hotel-themed” horror and really enjoyed Matt’s Top Ten Scary Motel List (here and here). It’s so easy to find scares within large buildings that serve as temporary lodging for different people passing in and out (see 1408).
And lookee here! We’ve got a brand new entry into the hotel subgenre checking in! It’s called NEW TERMINAL HOTEL and will be heading our way from writer/director BC Furtney. It stars horror-faves Stephen Geoffreys (FRIGHT NIGHT) and the goddess of gore, the sex queen of slashers, Ms. Tiffany Shepis!! Now that’s enough right there to sell me on NEW TERMINAL, but we do have a partial description from Furtney as to what it’s all about. See if you like:
“(Stephen Geoffreys) has his former boss, a studio chief, on ice—literally—in the room he’s holed up in,” Furtney said. “There are shades of the organ-theft horror stories we’ve always heard about, but it’s also a comment on how far a guy can go off the rails within the Hollywood structure and still be completely unchecked—and worse yet, be dealt a blind eye and allowed to operate. Because our culture right now is so self-obsessed with tunnel vision, and a guy who’s going slowly insane can operate with impunity and get so far down a rabbit hole. So much so that when his transgressions finally do come to light, the first reaction of the people closest to him is, ‘How can we profit from this?’ It’s kind of a revenge motif, but things spin out of control on him. It’s a heavy, intense, brooding lead part.”
Okay, and what about Tiffany (below)? Well, in a nice change of pace, she will be tackling a very dark role as Geoffrey’s “hardened literary agent.” Apparently, her character is not as appalled by her client’s actions as most people would normally be. Nice!
All in all, I’m thinking that NEW TERMINAL HOTEL is looking like one enjoyable piece of horror. I’ll be keeping me eyes open for any further info that reaches the front desk.
