Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot loses directors one week into production

Word around the old tool shed is that directors Andy and Ryan Tohill have exited Legendary's Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel after one weeks' worth of production. Citing creative differences as their reason for leaving, Legendary quickly appointed David Blue Garcia (TEJANO) as the project's new director, which is said to take place after the events of the Tobe Hooper-directed original. Furthermore, because the film was so early into its production, Garcia will be re-shooting the outback bloodbath from scratch.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with David Blue Garcia, he's the Emmy-winning director behind the $58,000 budget thriller TEJANO. Starring Patrick Mackie, Roland Uribe, and Mayra Leal, the story revolves around Javi, a South Texas farmhand who resorts to extreme measures to save his sick grandfather. In order to get money, Javi breaks his own arm to smuggle a cast made of cocaine across the Mexican border. Garcia's film premiered at the Dallas International Film Festival before making its HBO debut in January. He's also helmed commercials for such brands as Verizon, Lenovo, Fisher Price, T-Mobile, and Firestone.

Inspired by the notorious and disturbing actions of real-life killer Ed Gein, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE tells the story of two siblings and their friends who while en route to visit their grandfather's grave in Texas end up falling victim to a family of cannibalistic psychopaths and must survive the terrors of Leatherface and his family. Hooper's film is considered by many to be among the scariest ever made, and now Legendary hopes to continue the tale of terror with a direct sequel.

Are you excited for Leatherface to return to the big screen? Does the idea of Legendary's film being a continuation for Hooper's original have you more excited about what's to come? Let us know in the comments section below.
