The biggest dick in Hollywood, Eli Roth (sorry, the MAN with the biggest dick), can’t seem to get his head out of the Grindhouse. He’s already said that one of his next projects – after his adaptation of Stephen King’s CELL – will be TRAILER TRASH, the feature film that’s made up entirely of trailers (which sounds like an idea you come up with after 12 beers and a few joints and then forget about – but Roth seems determined to do it). Now he’s chatting about making a feature-length THANKSGIVING.
He told Slash film: “…it would be something I’d do in between projects. But I’m actually writing it with my friend Jeff just to have it ready. The first Grindhouse cost almost 70 million dollars. So I’m like, we should do it like Dogma 95 and call it Dogshit 2007, where you get half a million bucks and six days and no rehearsals. We’d have to list out crazy rules but we still want to do it. I’ve talked about doing it as a 45 minute movie with just so many missing reels.”
“…and I talked to Quentin and Robert. They said ‘We gotta f*cking do that man, that will be great!’”
You’d think QT and RR would’ve instead said “What the f*ck are you talking about – don’t do it, are you smoking crack?!” but I guess you’d be wrong.
I dug the THANKSGIVING trailer as everyone else did, but I think the joke has been told already, and by the time Roth gets around to actually doing it, it’ll be an OLD joke. I wish he and QT (especially) would start talking about doing ORIGINAL things – things we haven’t seen yet, things that are surprising – instead of retreading the same old “it’s so 70s!” gimmick over and over.
