Original article follows:

Director Jason Satterlund’s sci-fi thriller The Abandon is set to have its world premiere at the 2022 Mammoth Film Festival, which will be held in Mammoth Lakes, CA from February 3rd through 6th, and today we’ve got our hands on a batch of first look images, as well as the movie’s poster. You can check these out at the bottom of this article.

Written by Dwain Worrell, The Abandon has the following synopsis:

U.S. soldier, Miles Willis, is shot and wounded during an intense firefight in Iraq. As he tries to radio for help, a sudden, blinding light surrounds him. He awakens to find himself trapped in a strange, colorless cube with nothing inside but his own combat gear. As time passes, the cube begins to change: fluctuating extreme temperatures, random shifts of gravity, and strange writing appearing on the walls. His only communication is with one person — a mystery woman who calls him on his satellite phone, claiming to be trapped in a similar space. As the clock ticks, the two must figure out who has them, why they were taken, and how to escape.

That sounds sort of like a mixture of the films Cube and Buried. This film stars Jonathan Rosenthal, Tamara Perry, Regis Terencio, and Dan Kyle.

Satterlund provided the following statement about The Abandon:

Over the last few years, I found myself watching the news as one shocking event after another unfolded. Violent protests, hate speech, police brutality, and pandemics rippled across my screen, which left me with one hollow question: Where did all this hate come from?

I watched a world torn to shreds. Each side screaming at the other. Fingers and fists. No one listening. Everyone was angry. It was during this time that I met writer Dwain Worrell. He passed me a script about a soldier trapped in a mysterious room, and the only person he can call is a woman claiming to be trapped in an identical room. The two came from worlds that couldn’t be farther from each other, but they learn that they will not survive if they don’t come to a common understanding. I was immediately intrigued by the sci-fi mystery aspect, but on the deepest level, I was pulled in by this story about two people fighting against an enemy that they could not see. Their biggest obstacle was each other. In order to overcome this threat, they had to put aside their differences and unite. This story hit all the notes of the kinds of stories that I love. A thrilling, sci-fi mystery coupled with deep, heartfelt drama. This, to me, is what storytelling is all about. Bringing mankind together.
