The Babysitter 3: McG is talking about wrapping up his horror comedy trilogy

Filmed near the end of 2015, director McG’s horror comedy The Babysitter was released through the Netflix streaming service during the Halloween season of 2017 – and not only did it help establish Samara Weaving as a modern genre icon, it also did well enough to spawn a sequel. The Babysitter: Killer Queen was released by Netflix in September of 2020. Three years later (and eight years after he was in production on the first film), McG has confirmed to ComicBook.com that he’s still interested in making The Babysitter 3!

McG said, “We’re still talking about it. It was fun. The first movie, obviously, gave Samara Weaving to the world, and the second movie was Jenna Ortega. Hopefully we can answer the call and find a third star that reaches those lofty heights.

The director previously told our friends at Bloody Disgusting, “There have always been three beats to this story. There’s the first beat, which is an adolescent Cole, who is having these strange feelings about the babysitter. But naturally it’s not appropriate for him to realize those feelings with a grown woman. In the second film he’s in an age where he can experience love… and we could explore that. I don’t want to talk about the third beat of the Cole arc. But should the audience like (Killer Queen), we’re ready to do the third one.

Scripted by Brian Duffield, The Babysitter starred Samara Weaving as the babysitter herself and Judah Lewis as her 12-year-old charge, Cole. The film follows a young boy and his babysitter on a night where things go very wrong, with the boy learning a few lessons about life, love and murder along the way.

McG wrote the screenplay for The Babysitter: Killer Queen alongside Dan Lagana, Brad Morris, and Jimmy Warden. The synopsis: Two years after defeating a satanic cult led by his babysitter Bee, Cole’s trying to forget his past and focus on surviving high school. But when old enemies unexpectedly return, Cole will once again have to outsmart the forces of evil.
