2022 has been such a tumultuous year for DC films. Maybe 2023 will be more stable, but the changes being made by James Gunn and Peter Safran are still currently in motion and seem to be ever-evolving. It seemed Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam was heading down a focused path with Johnson bringing in Cavill to return for a planned smackdown. However, sequel plans for both Black Adam and Man of Steel are looking to be scrapped. There’s also been the news of Wonder Woman 3 getting shafted. The two properties that remain contained and chillin’ to the side are The Batman and Joker. The first look at the Joker sequel dropped this week, but plans are still up in the air for The Batman. Now, Variety reports that Gunn and Safran are considering bringing Robert Pattinson’s Batman into an expanded universe. Their “well-placed source” reports that, so far, this is the only reminisce of the pre-existing plans that will transfer over into the new regime.

After the current slate of releases, which includes the upcoming Aquaman sequel, the Flash solo film, Shazam 2, and a Blue Beetle movie, which just released a teaser poster, the big Gunn and Safran plan should start to take over. Gunn released a statement last week that he’s well aware of the shake-up whiplash that fans are getting.

“We know we are not going to make every single person happy every step of the way, but we can promise everything we do is done in the service of the STORY, and in the service of the DC CHARACTERS we know you cherish and we have cherished our whole lives. As for more answers about the future of the DCU, I will sadly have to ask you to wait. We are giving these characters and the stories the time and attention they deserve, and we ourselves still have a lot more questions to ask and answer.”

The loyal fans of the Snyder-verse have been taking issue with the changes, especially now that Man of Steel 2 and Aquaman‘s future is now being reconsidered. The Snyder fans have been vocal about restoring the filmmaker’s vision ever since HBOMax released the Snyder Cut of Justice League with newly filmed scenes and his personal re-edit of the crossover film.

What do you think? Should DC just overhaul completely? Would The Batman make a good universe base? Sound off below!
