The Book of Boba Fett: Jon Favreau reveals details on new Disney+ series

Fans of The Mandalorian were greeted with a pleasant surprise at the end of the season two finale when it was revealed that a new Star Wars series was coming in December of 2021. While initial details were a bit vague, The Mandalorian creator and showrunner Jon Favreau took to Good Morning America to reveal more about the upcoming series, The Book of Boba Fett.

"We wanted to hold this back because we didn’t want to spoil the surprise during the big Disney announcement for all the shows.. and so they let me keep this one a secret,” Favreau said. “This is actually separate from The Mandalorian Season 3. The Book of Boba Fett is currently filming, and then we go into production after that with Season 3 of The Mandalorian, with the main character that we all have known and loved (played by Pedro Pascal)."

News of The Book of Boba Fett was revealed following the credits sequence in The Mandalorian finale. (SPOILERS AHEAD FOR ANYONE THAT HAS NOT WATCHED THE SEASON 2 FINALE!). During the sequence, we see Return of the Jedi character Bib Fortuna sitting on his throne in the old palace. Fennec, played by Ming-Na Wen, enters shooting most of the creatures around him and blasts the shackles off the blue dancing girl. This is when Boba Fett enters and Bib exclaims, "Boba, I thought you were dead!" Boba then shoots Fortuna dead and takes the throne at Jabba's palace. This is when the title card "THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT…COMING DECEMBER 2021" appears on the screen.

Temuera Morrison (Boba Fett) and Ming-Na Wen (Fennec Shand) will star in the spinoff while Robert Rodriguez is on board as an executive producer. Rodriguez joins Favreau and Dave Filoni, who are also back as executive producers. You can watch Favreau's full Good Morning American interview below!
