The Charmed reboot has found its third sister

Last week, we shared the news that The CW's reboot of the "three witch sisters vs. the forces of evil" television series Charmed had found two of the three sisters who will carry the show. Melonie Diaz has been cast as Mel, "a passionate, outspoken activist who loses her way in the wake of family tragedy", with Sarah Jeffery signed on to play Madison, "a bubbly college freshman who finds witchcraft at odds with her goal of getting into a super-fun sorority."

That left the role of sister Macy still open. But it's not open anymore. The CW has announced that Macy will be played by Madeleine Mantock, best known for playing Veil on the AMC series Into the Badlands. Macy is "a practical, driven, and brilliant geneticist. Her world is blown open when she discovers that the supernatural world is all too real."

Also in the cast is Ser'Darius Blain as Macy's boyfriend Galvin, "the ideal boyfriend — funny, mellow, in touch with his emotions, totally on board to follow his lady across the country for her dream job. An aspiring filmmaker, he has yet to catch the break he’s sure is just around the corner."

The story for the Charmed reboot was crafted by Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman. Jane writers Jessica O'Toole and Amy Rardin wrote the script and will be executive producing the show with pilot director Brad Silberling.

This new take on the concept is said to be a

fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series,  centering on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done."

Mantock's casting here reminds me that I need to check out Into the Badlands sometime, because the idea of a post-apocalyptic martial arts show is very appealing to me. The actress also had a role in the Doug Liman/Tom Cruise/Emily Blunt film EDGE OF TOMORROW.

The original Charmed ran on The WB for eight seasons and starred Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs, and Alyssa Milano as sisters Prue, Piper, and Phoebe, with Rose McGowan showing up as long-lost half sister named Paige when Doherty left the show after season three.
