The Conjuring 2 pushed to 2016; untitled New Line horror movie set for 2015

UPDATE: It appears that James Wan IS confirmed to direct THE CONJURING 2.

Earlier this year it was announced THE CONJURING sequel will be in theaters on October 23, 2015, but it's being reported it will now be released sometime in 2016. Stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are also set to reprise their roles from the first movie for the sequel.

The new release date might have something to do with Wan's FAST AND FURIOUS 7, which is scheduled to open in 2015. Although filming is done, James Wan is currently doing post-production work on the movie, and he is likely going to be quite busy promoting FAST AND FURIOUS 7 leading up to the film's April 3 release date.

Warner Bros. has also announced an untitled New Line horror film will open in October of next year instead of THE CONJURING 2. Deadline believes there are two different New Line projects that could end up landing the release date: Phil Claydon's CRAWLSPACE starring Bates Motel's Michael Vartan, and Chris Lofing and Travis Cluff's SUPERSTITION. CRAWLSPACE will follow "a widower (Vartan) who moves into a seemingly perfect new home with his daughter and new wife," while SUPERSTITION is set in "a house that was once the site of a witch's execution."
