Looks like Breck Eisner is keeping his remake streak intact!
Variety is reporting that Eisner (above), fresh off a $38 million dollar domestic take from his revival of THE CRAZIES, is now in negotiations to helm New Line’s redo of John Carpenter’s ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. Yup folks, chalk up another senseless remake!
Of course, this one’s been in the works for many years, even having Gerard Butler attached to portray the immortal Snake Plissken back in 2007. Butler split over creative disagreement shortly thereafter.
Co-written with Carpenter by Nick Castle, the original 1981 film was set:
In the future (1997), where crime is out of control and New York City is a maximum security prison. Grabbing a bargaining chip right out of the air, convicts bring down the President’s plane in bad old Gotham. Gruff Snake Plissken, a one-eyed lone warrior new to prison life, is coerced into bringing the President, and his cargo, out of this land of undesirables.
So what do you guys think? In favor of an ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK remake? Is Eisner the right man for the job? And if not Butler or Kurt Russell, who do you think might be the best choice to play good ol’ Plissken?
Let some drops off below!
