This is a funny little dealio- a reader from Malaysia sent us a note to point out that the above poster is the official Malayzian poster for next month’s Tom Hanks thriller THE DA VINCI CODE. Notice anything different than the poster released in the states (the one below)? How about that scary ass ghost-like dude! Since when is this a
horror movie? The scariest scenes I’ve seen of this movie so far mainly have to do with Hanks’ freaky mullet-like hair style. Yikes!
Apparently the Malaysian film distributors feel the need to include a ghost or some sort of scary spin for promoting every and all movies. If it’s a non-horror movie, they throw a ghost on the poster just because they know horror’s hot, and horror’s gonna bring the money in! How crazy is that?
The above poster is a prime example. It leaves Hanks, but takes co-star Audrey Tautou out of the picture, and inserts this scary demon ghost like dude. I like the idea behind this marketing scheme, except for the fact that it’s blatantly lying to people about the movie they’re about to pay for. If I went to see MAID IN MANHATTAN soley based on the idea that I thought J-Lo was gonna get stalked by a ghost, only to find it was a stupid romantic comedy, I’d be pissed!
Either way, funny facts from around the world that I hope you got a kick out of. If you’re into mysteries and mullets, be sure to hit up THE DA VINCI CODE May 19th.
Thanks to Daniel for the heads up!
