A big-screen adaptation of Tom Clancy's The Division has been in the works for a number of years and has gone through several directors in that time, and the latest person to helm the video-game adaptation for Netflix will be Rawson Marshall Thurber, as he's signed on to replace David Leitch.
David Letich had to step down as director due to scheduling conflicts with his action/thriller Bullet Train, which he is in the midst of filming, but he'll remain onboard The Division as a producer. This move will keep Rawson Marshall Thurber in the Netflix family as he previously helmed Red Notice for the streaming service, an upcoming action flick that stars Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds. The Division is slated to star Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain and will take place in "the near future where a pandemic virus is spread via paper money on Black Friday, decimating the city of New York and killing millions. By Christmas, what’s left of society has descended into chaos. A group of civilians, trained to operate in catastrophic times, are activated in an attempt to save who and what remains." The Division was originally set to be helmed by Syriana director Stephen Gaghan, before he departed and was replaced by David Leitch. Third time's the charm?
Rawson Marshall Thurber's Red Notice revolves around a daring heist that brings together INTERPOL's top agent (Dwayne Johnson), the world's greatest art thief (Gal Gadot), and the world's greatest conman (Ryan Reynolds). The film doesn't have an official release date yet, but it's expected to debut on Netflix later this year.
