The Evil Dead remake and Bates Motel will terrorize SXSW 2013

South By South West 2013 starts March 8th in Austin, Texas. One thing’s for sure– based on the following announcements, the famed film festival will not be short on the horror front.

It seems SXSW will be kicking things off right by holding the world premiere for Fede Alvarez’s EVIL DEAD remake. Check out the listing below.

In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film Evil Dead, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival. Director: Fede Alvarez; Screenwriter: Fede Alvarez, Rodo Sayagues; Principal Cast: Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, Elizabeth Blackmore

That’s pretty awesome, but to top it off the pilot of BATES MOTEL has also been announced for an exclusive first look during the festival’s film conference:

In a Special Event combining the SXSW Film Festival and Conference in one, attendees will get an exclusive first look at the pilot of “Bates Motel,” the thrilling new series from A&E. Following the screening, Executive Producer Carlton Cuse (“Lost”) will sit down with A&E Marketing EVP Guy Slattery for an inside look and Q&A on the process for bringing this contemporary prequel to life.

The fest runs from March 8th to the 16th. For more info on these events and their schedule head over to the official site. While you’re at it, talkback below if you’re planning on attending.
