The fantastic Carrie Coon to star in the second season of The Sinner

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Where Carrie Coon goes, I will follow, and when it's a series which I'm already invested in, all the better. USA Network has announced that the actress will be starring in the second season of The Sinner as Vera, a "formidable, mysterious woman who struggles between upholding the ideals of the community she leads and fulfilling her own desires." The first season of the anthology series followed Cora (Jessica Biel), a young mother who brutally kills a man in public while at the beach with her family. As she seems to have no idea why she did it, Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) investigates Cora's past in order to discover the truth.

With Cora's story complete, the second season will see Detective Ambrose return as he's lured back to his hometown in rural New York to assess an unsettling and heart-wrenching crime — parents murdered by their 11-year-old son, with no apparent motive. As Ambrose realizes there’s nothing ordinary about the boy or where he came from, the investigation pulls him into the hidden darkness of his hometown. He’s pitted against those who’ll stop at nothing to protect its secrets — and a mysterious woman who proves to be a complicated, enigmatic piece to this haunting puzzle. Carrie Coon's character is "a spiritual seeker who has turned her back on the world and passionately dedicated herself to creating a utopia and upholding its ideals. What she believes to be an enlightened community, others see as a cult, and she will have to utilize her grit and cunning to fight battles, both personal and cultural, that pull her in all directions." Joining Carrie Coon and Bill Pullman in the second season of The Sinner will be Natalie Paul (The Deuce) as Heather, a detective in training, and Hannah Gross (Mindhunter) as Marin, Heather's best friend from high-school who disappeared from town years ago in a cloud of mystery. Although Jessica Biel may not be returning in front of the camera, she'll remain onboard as an executive producer.

"The Sinner was a huge success for USA Network," said Chris McCumber, president of entertainment networks at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. "In our second season, we’ll follow Detective Ambrose as he tracks his newest 'why-dunnit,' while staying true to the unique, edge-of-your-seat storytelling that captivated audiences and critics alike."

The second season of The Sinner will premiere in August.
