The first Nines minutes

I’ve never heard of John August until his directorial debut THE NINES started making waves at Sundance. It turns out that August is the man behind some pretty important screenplays like GO, BIG FISH, and CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY. THE NINES is one of those curiosity-inducing movies, where you don’t exactly know what it’s about until you go and see the damn thing. The plot on Wikipedia has it as “A troubled actor, a television show runner, and an acclaimed video game designer find their lives intertwining in mysterious and unsettling ways.”

The filmmakers have gone and posted the first 9 minutes online (get it? Because of the title?), and after watching it, I can say that not only does Ryan Reynolds look amazing without his shirt, but this thing looks effin’ weird, in a good way. It reminds me of a Richard Kelly film, even though I’ve only seen one. I’ve heard it described as LOST-style mystery, and I love LOST, I love style, and I love mystery, so this looks right up my alley. Check out the trippiness BELOW. Look for it on August 31 in limited release.
