The Frankenstein Chronicles, starring Sean Bean, is coming to A&E

Produced for the UK television network ITV, the six episode horror/detective thriller mini-series The Frankenstein Chronicles is now set to make its way to TV screens in the US courtesy of A&E.

Created by Benjamin Ross and Barry Langford and starring Sean Bean, The Frankenstein Chronicles

is a re-imagining of the Frankenstein story set in 19th-century London. After a successful operation by the Thames River Police to nab a gang of opium smugglers, a child’s corpse is discovered. Inspector John Marlott is horrified to discover that it’s not actually a child, but a grotesque assembly of human body parts. We follow Marlott on the hunt for the killer behind this abomination, taking him into the dark corners of Georgian London, an underworld of prostitution, drug smuggling, bodysnatching, murder for profit and other vices.

Sounds like a very intriguing take on the Frankenstein concept, and definitely like something that I need to watch when it airs. A&E just acquired the rights, so it's not yet known when they'll be showing the episodes.

The Frankenstein Chronicles has quite a large cast; Bean's co-stars include Anna Maxwell Martin, Charlie Creed-Miles, Ed Stoppard, Elliot Cowan, Hugh O’Conor, Joe Tucker, Kate Dickie, Lalor Roddy, Patrick Fitzsymons, Richie Campbell, Robbie Gee, Ryan Sampson, Samuel West, Shaun Mason, Steve Wilson, Steven Berkoff, Stuart Graham, Tom Ward, and Vanessa Kirby.
