The Grudge Saw

Hey, hey, hey! No, it’s not Fat Albert. Just a genre fan who’s doing a little jig because for another week (and the most important one at that), horror reigned supreme at the box office. THE GRUDGE slayed all comers in its second week of release, but perhaps more impressive, was the stellar performance of SAW. That killer hacked through $17.4 million for the first weekend, grabbing the number three slot. Considering SAW is graphic, intense, and particularly genre fan focused (not to forget it’s got a “hard” R rating), the opening was amazing. In fact, it was nearly double the pre-weekend estimates. Here’s hoping that studios outside of Lions Gate get the message that we genre fans love our horror dirty, fast and mean – and we’ll toss our disposable income towards anybody with the balls to cater to us!
