The Hitman’s Bodyguard releases funny poster that evokes The Bodyguard

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

So the trailer for the action-comedy THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD starring Ryan Reynolds as the bodyguard protecting Samuel L. Jackson's hitman was just released. While it had some chuckle-worthy moments, I overall wasn't too impressed. It just seemed like both Reynolds and Jackson were on auto-pilot, basically doing a parody of themselves (motor-mouthed smarmy wise-ass and "motherfucking"-yelling scary black man, respectively).

However, one thing that stuck out to me as sort-of clever about the trailer, was that it explicitly evoked the classic Kevin Costner flick THE BODYGUARD with the use of Whitney Houston's rendition of "I Will Always Love You" (because they both have "BODYGUARD" in the name, get it? We're so meta). Well, anyway, looks like they're doubling down with that, by releasing their new poster:

Which resembles, almost one-to-one, THE BODYGUARD poster:

So that's fun at least.

Either way, THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD will come running and gunning into theaters August 18th.
