The Howling comic book series and board game coming from Space Goat

A while back, we heard that Joe Dante's classic werewolf movie THE HOWLING would be receiving a reboot from Emaji Entertainment. While no further details have been revealed about that project, we do now have confirmation that the HOWLING franchise will live on in a different way – Space Goat Productions, the company behind a board game and line of comic books inspired by EVIL DEAD 2, has partnered with Studiocanal and Creative Licensing to get the rights to do the same for THE HOWLING.

Yes, there is going to be a board game based on THE HOWLING, and New York Times best-selling author Micky Neilson is currently scripting a 4 issue comic book mini-series titled The Howling: Revenge of the Werewolf Queen, which takes place directly after the events of the first film.

The Werewolf Queen story is being kept under wraps, but Neilson did have this to say about it:

I can't even tell you how excited I am to write The Howling comic book! I saw the movie when I was seventeen. It opened an entirely new window into werewolf mythology and left a lifelong impression that influences me to this day. If I could choose any license to work on, The Howling is right there at the top of the list. It still stands as my favorite all-time werewolf film. I've been obsessed with werewolves ever since the first time I saw it."

Equally enthusiastic about the mini-series is Jason Johnson, who will be providing the line art.

I have always had a major fascination with werewolves! They were by far the most fearsome of monsters. I will bring this story to life like only a true werewolf connoisseur can."

As for why Space Goat would be interested in digging into the concepts of THE HOWLING, the company's founder Shon Bury explained,

There is a complete dearth of quality werewolf stories on the market. Exploring the lore of ‘The Howling’ with a writer of Micky’s caliber is going to be a joy ride. Werewolf fans are going to love it."

The Howling: Revenge of the Werewolf Queen will be released in the summer of 2017, and it's a guarantee that I will be picking up that series. A release date for the board game has not yet been announced.
