The Hunger Games breaks advance tickets record, besting Twilight

Fandango is reporting that ticket sales for THE HUNGER GAMES have been staggering, and the film has sold out hundreds of showtimes even though it’s a month off from release. In fact, it’s the biggest first-day ticket-seller the site has ever seen, beating a record that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE set on Friday, May 14th 2010.

“THE HUNGER GAMES is off to a fantastic start,” says Rick Butler, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Fandango. “Yesterday we saw the biggest first day advance ticketing sales in our company’s nearly 12-year history – which is especially impressive for a March release and a non-sequel.”

Tickets for the film went on sale yesterday and as theaters sell out theater owners keep adding more and more showtimes- I notice a theater near me has four midnight screenings happening already. 

It’s looking more and more possible that Lionsgate might just have that franchise that they’ve been looking for all these years! Everyone I know is picking up those books and while I have yet to read them myself I will, soon… despite my love of “Battle Royale”.  

At this rate it seems like the sequels are a done deal.
