The Kong of Skull Island will be 100 feet tall

Ever since it was announced that Legendary Pictures would be pitting their versions of King Kong and Godzilla against each other, fans have been wondering how exactly such a fight could work, since there is quite a height difference between the two beasts. The Godzilla in Legendary's 2014 film stood at around 350 feet tall, which is the tallest Godzilla there has ever been (although that record is soon to be beaten by the one in Toho's GODZILLA: RESURGENCE). King Kong's height has typically fluctuated between 18 and 60 feet tall.

The filmmakers have taken a step toward solving that height problem by greatly increasing the size of Kong for their upcoming film KONG: SKULL ISLAND.

A preview of the film was recently shown at the CineEurope event in Barcelona, and during the presentation director Jordan Vogt-Roberts revealed,

This is going to be the biggest Kong there's ever been. Not 10 foot or 30 foot, but a 100-foot ape."

If his Kong is indeed 100 feet tall, that actually still wouldn't make him the tallest Kong ever. Right now, the record for tallest Kong goes to the one that previously fought Godzilla in 1962's KING KONG VS. GODZILLA. To fight a Godzilla that stood at around 164 feet, that Kong's height was boosted up to around 148 feet.

Will the heights shift again for Legendary's GODZILLA VS. KONG, which is scheduled for a May 29, 2020 release? We'll have to wait and see. If the creatures do remain at their GODZILLA '14 and KONG: SKULL ISLAND heights, having a 100 foot tall ape battle a 350 foot tall radioactive sea monster would definitely allow this take on the fight to stand apart from KING KONG VS. GODZILLA. It would be fun to see Kong climbing Godzilla like a building.

Before we get to GODZILLA VS. KONG, KONG: SKULL ISLAND will be reaching theatres on March 10, 2017, followed by GODZILLA 2 on March 22, 2019.

KONG: SKULL ISLAND follows

a man who travels to the mythical island and home of the king of the apes. A team of explorers ventures inside what they find to be a treacherous island. The story is said to honor the King Kong lore but in a different time period.

Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, John Goodman, John C. Reilly, Tom Wilkinson, Thomas Mann, John Ortiz, Shea Whigham, Will Brittain, Corey Hawkins, and Jason Mitchell star.
