Last year, Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers) entered talks with HBO to develop a television adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' "Watchmen," it wasn't a done deal at the time, with Lindelof commenting that he holds the source material in such high regard that "it would literally be the worst feeling in the world to screw it up. So I take it very seriously, there's a lot of responsibility." HBO later gave the series the greenlight, ordering a pilot as well as commissioning additional backup scripts, and now, Lindelof has tapped Nicole Kassell to helm the pilot.

Nicole Kassell made her feature directorial-debut with Kevin Bacon's THE WOODSMAN and has gone on to enjoy quite a prolific career in television, helming episodes of The Killing, Better Call Saul, The Following, American Crime, Rectify, The Americans, and also, The Leftovers. The two episodes of The Leftovers which Kassell directed, Season 2’s "No Room at the Inn" and Season 3’s "It’s a Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World," were highly praised by critics and both focused on Christopher Eccleston's character of Matt Jamison, a priest who struggles with his faith after the Sudden Departure results in the disappearance of 140 million people. It's not known when HBO's Watchmen series will debut, but I'd bet on the network saving the series for after the conclusion of Game of Thrones.
