Star Wars fans might want to purchase a corkboard, thumbtacks, and string because The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau recently hinted that the Disney+ series will lead into the sequel trilogy. Favreau said as much during an interview with the Writer's Guild of America. While speaking with the outlet, Favreau explained that showrunners needed a point of origin for The Mandalorian to understand how the show fits into the Star Wars timeline.

“Having an understanding of how the story fits into, not just our series, but the ‘Star Wars’ universe, that’s something that requires a very collaborative approach. That collaboration is what inspires me to be able to go home and type and write scenes alone. We found a very interesting, cool balance that’s about as fulfilling as anything I’ve ever worked on in my whole career,” Favreau told the WGA about finding a fixed point in Star Wars history for The Mandalorian.

Favreau also confessed to the WGA that he didn't necessarily have a plan in mind when he started writing The Mandalorian, but that much of the show came to him once his pen hit paper, so to speak.

“The story unfolded as I wrote it. ‘The Mandalorian’ inherits a great deal from existing ‘Star Wars’ stories, and when I write, that context is always a consideration. It became clear that, within the established continuity, certain things were likely to transpire.”

Geez, I wish that I could write something as compelling as The Mandalorian while having no particular plan at the start. I have to imagine that, now that Favreau has two seasons of the show under his belt, he's got some idea as to where Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) will go next, and how his adventures eventually lead to the latest Star Wars trilogy. It's either that or the man is a mad genius. What is your secret Favreau? Tell me so that I might learn from your success.
