The Mummy international trailer has action, sand storms, swimming zombies

Universal's THE MUMMY, the film that is meant to kick off their new Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe of interconnected monster movie reboots, is my most highly anticipated horror release of the year. My hype level is already off the charts, and now an international trailer has come along to boost my excitement even more.

Directed by Alex Kurtzman from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts, THE MUMMY stars Tom Cruise, Jake Johnson, Annabelle Wallis, Courtney B. Vance, Marwan Kenzari, and Javier Botet, with Sofia Boutella as the Mummy and Russell Crowe as Dr. Henry Jekyll. The synopsis:

Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

Mixing footage from previous trailers with some new footage, this international trailer has it all – action, adventure, large scale destruction, and monsters – not just the mummy herself, but also her zombie servants. There's a great shot in there of some of these zombies swimming through a flooded tomb, heading toward Cruise. This trailer also gives us further glimpses of armed soldiers who I assume are working for Jekyll's organization Prodigium, which exists to "recognize, examine, contain, and destroy evil". As I have said before, I believe Prodigium is going to be used to tie this monster universe together.

THE MUMMY is looking like a great time to me. I can't wait to see it when it's released on June 9th.
