The Munsters: Rob Zombie hints at possible Dragula action

The Munsters super-fan Rob Zombie once paid tribute to the classic sitcom by writing a song inspired by the “Dragula” roadster the Grandpa character built out of a coffin so Herman Munster could win the family Koach back in a drag race. So now that Zombie has been given the chance to write and direct his own The Munsters movie, would it be surprising if he happened to include a Dragula race in there? Zombie hinted at the possibility of this with an image posted on his Instagram account that shows “a sneak peek at a piece of Herman’s wardrobe” – a leather jacket with The Punk Rods on the back of it, the same outfit he wore when he drove the Dragula roadster in the Hot Rod Herman episode of the sitcom.

Zombie also posted a picture of himself in front of the Munsters Mansion, located at 1313 Mockingbird Lane. The house used for the sitcom still stands on the Universal backlot, but the one Zombie visited is the newly constructed recreation that has been built specifically for his movie on a patch of land in Hungary.

The Munsters ran for two seasons, from September 1964 to May 1966, and consisted of 70 episodes. (You can buy the complete series at THIS LINK.) The show

starred Fred Gwynne as Frankenstein’s monster and head-of-the-household Herman Munster; Yvonne De Carlo as his wife Lily Munster; Al Lewis as Lily’s father, Grandpa, the somewhat over-the-hill vampire Count Dracula who longs for the “good old days” in Transylvania; Beverley Owen (later replaced by Pat Priest) as their teenage niece Marilyn Munster, who was attractive by conventional standards but the “ugly duckling” of the family; and Butch Patrick as their werewolfish son Eddie Munster.

The cast for Zombie’s film has not been confirmed, but the rumor is that Jeff Daniel Phillips and Sheri Moon Zombie will be playing Herman and Lily Munster, and they’ll be joined in the cast by Daniel Roebuck, Jorge Garcia, Richard Brake, Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson, and Sylvester McCoy.

Zombie has previously shown the blueprint for an exact replica of the Munsters’ house, given us a look at costume designs for Herman and Lily Munster’s sleepwear, confirmed that horror host character Zombo will be in the movie, posted a picture of the wig the actor who plays Grandpa will be wearing, given an early look at the crafting of Herman’s head, shown off some of the wardrobe, shared pictures of some creature effects, showed the houses being built on Mockingbird Lane, updated on the construction of the Munsters Mansion, and more.

If anyone wants to buy a Dragula, one is going up for sale in January.
