When the first red-band trailer for WE’RE THE MILLERS hit the Internet, the buzz was on the sexy striptease from Jennifer Aniston. Aniston finally broke her crappy movie role streak with her against type turn in HORRIBLE BOSSES and looks to be doing it again in this raunchy comedy from director Rawson Thurber (DODGEBALL).
What seems to be getting missed is that this is also the biggest role to date for recently departed SNL star Jason Sudeikis who is hoping to launch a big screen career. Sudeikis has played supporting roles in comedies like HORRIBLE BOSSES, THE CAMPAIGN, and HALL PASS, but WE’RE THE MILLERS is his ticket to become a household name for audiences.
David Burke (Sudeikis) is a small-time pot dealer whose clientele includes chefs and soccer moms, but no kids—after all, he has his scruples. So what could go wrong? Plenty. Preferring to keep a low profile for obvious reasons, he learns the hard way that no gooddeed goes unpunished when he tries to help out some local teens and winds up getting jumped by a trio of gutter punks. Stealing his stash and his cash, they leave him in major debt to his supplier, Brad (Ed Helms).
In order to wipe the slate clean—and maintain a clean bill of health—David must now become a big-time drug smuggler by bringing Brad’s latest shipment in from Mexico. Twisting the arms of hisneighbors, cynical stripper Rose (Aniston) and wannabe customer Kenny (WillPoulter), and the tatted-and-pierced streetwise teen Casey (Emma Roberts), he devises a foolproof plan. One fake wife, two pretend kids and a huge,shiny RV later, the “Millers” are headed south of the border for a Fourth of July weekend that is sure to end with a bang.
The screenplay from Bob Fisher & Steve Faber (WEDDING CRASHERS) looks like it could be the best R-rated comedy of the Summer with the failure of THE HANGOVER PART III to click with fans. I have to say this looks like a fun August movie worth checking out. Even the intro and outro to this trailer is funnier than a lot released recently.
