We’ve all been buzzed about the news that a new THE MUNSTERS TV series is in the works over at NBC (I haven’t decided if that is a good or bad thing). The folks over at Bloody-Disgusting decided to do some research into the show, and see what details they could find.
They were told that this would not be a remake of the original series; it will instead be a modernised take. Something a long the lines of … get this … MODERN FAMILY and TRUE BLOOD. Yes I have no idea how that is meant to work, sounds a little too nuts in a way. The series is meant to be comedic, with heart but also be dark. As we know the pilot episode will be directed by Bryan Singer, a good start if I do say so myself.
The characters also have some details attached; we have Eddie Munster the focus of the pilot, who does not know he is in fact a werewolf. He also isn’t aware his family are a bunch of scary creatures. The madness begins when a baby bear attacks a scouting trip, only it turns out that this “bear” is actually Eddie transformed into a werewolf. Eddie is unaware of his metamorphosis and it forces the family to move in order to protect the family secret. The coming of age story gets weirder as he fights against his family when he learns of a shocker: they’re a family of flesh-eaters!
That sounds promising, if done right of course, in the wrong hands it could an epic failure and disaster. The other little tidbits of info are character details; Lily Munster who is said to have ‘an eating disorder’ in the way of ‘eating suicide victims’. That sounds quite morbid, I can weirdly get on board with that. Then we have Grandpa Munster who is going to be a 600-year-old shifter and Marilyn Munster who was adopted after her mother tried to eat her as a baby.
