Fresh off dethroning Deadpool & Wolverine as the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey is preparing to make the trip home to your movie collection shelves.

From the Silver Screen to Your Shelf

Nolan’s film, based on Homer’s epic poem, will be available to rent and purchase on digital on November 17, 2026. Thankfully, if you want a physical copy, you can purchase The Odyssey on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray the same day.

The home release arrives four months after Nolan’s latest opus debuted in theaters, giving the film a wide theatrical release window before playing in homes across the globe. Nolan’s previous film, Oppenheimer, spent 123 days in theaters before coming to premium video-on-demand and physical media platforms.

180 Minutes, Zero Restroom Breaks

While experiencing The Odyssey on the big screen is an absolute must, no one can blame filmgoers for wincing at that three-hour runtime. That’s not just a long time to sit—it’s a test of bladder endurance. Some people don’t mind using the restroom during a movie, but I can’t. I’ll hold it in until the end every time. Movies are too expensive to spend time in the bathroom while they’re playing, and what if I miss a pivotal scene? I don’t mind dipping out if I’ve already seen the film, but if it’s a first watch, I don’t leave my seat for any reason.

A $1.35 Billion Box Office Behemoth

The Odyssey has earned roughly $1.35 billion worldwide, making it Nolan’s highest-grossing movie to date. A portion of that total is thanks to IMAX screenings, which account for $257 million in ticket sales. If you’re keeping score, this total also makes it the highest-grossing IMAX film ever.

Nolan fans should not expect the filmmaker to return with another film for at least three years. He told TODAY as much while discussing The Odyssey’s harsh filming conditions, saying, “I definitely hit the limits of my own stamina and everybody’s stamina, I think. I mean, it’s ‘The Odyssey,’ of course it should be difficult,” he noted. “We’re not doing the job right making a film of ‘The Odyssey’ if it doesn’t seem difficult.”
