Five of the original Avengers got matching tattoos because life is magical

The Marvel roster has added so many members over the years you wouldn’t be punished for thinking they’re forming their own version of the Wu Tang Clan. Anyone who has followed this series remembers the humbler days when it was just the original group of Avengers – a mere six heroes on the screen. With AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR blowing up the box office and signaling the end of an era, the original gang has commemorated their bond by getting matching tattoos, thus proving they’re the bestest of friends.

Five of the six original Avengers – Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man/Tony Stark), Chris Evans (Captain America/Steve Rogers), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye/Clint Barton) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) )– are now inked for life with a special Avengers tattoo they got recently from New York tattoo artist, Josh Lord. Downey posted a video of him getting the tat yesterday, with EW getting the exclusive on the images of the finished work which shows the Avengers “A” symbol over the number 6.

Downey talked about how the idea came about, and how they included Lord as the sixth person to get the tat, as Mark Ruffalo (Hulk/Bruce Banner) did not want to participate.

Five of the original six Avengers got a tattoo, and the sixth was the tattoo artist, who gave it to five of us, the one who opted out being Mark Ruffalo. It was (Scarlett) Johansson’s idea, and she and (Chris) Evans did it in New York. Then, their New York guy, Josh Lord, who is amazing, flew out to LA, he did me, did (Jeremy) Renner, and then we just bullied (Chris) Hemsworth into doing it, and he got it. And each one of us drew a line on the artist with his own tattoo gun and it was a total massacre. Each of us contributed to giving the tattoo artist the sixth tattoo that he designed for us. By the way, he’s got another one on him that Scarlett did, which is beautiful, which is crazy, because the line she drew on him, which was just supposed to be a straight line, looked like a lightning bolt. It was a mess.

This is a pretty awesome way to commemorate close to a decade of working together, and it really puts how far they’ve all come into perspective. Lord knows what will happen to their characters when AVENGERS 4 ends next year, but they’ll always be remembered as the original squad. Now all we have to do is put one on Ruffalo when he’s sleeping for this to be perfect.
