The Paramount Network’s Heathers reboot series gets a teaser

Of all 1980s cult classics that could have been chosen to receive a reboot as an anthology television series, I never would have guessed that one to get such treatment would be Michael Lehmann's 1988 dark comedy HEATHERS. That film followed a girl named

Veronica as she navigates a clique of mean girls — all named Heather — and rebels after meeting J.D., the new guy at school. Soon, the Heathers start "accidentally" dying at the hands of Veronica and J.D., who cover up the deaths by faking them as suicides.

The concept of Heathers has been reworked by writer Jason A. Micallef into an anthology idea that will focus on a new set of Heathers in a different setting every season.

For the 10 episode first season of the series, the Heathers are being played by Jasmine Mathews, Brendan Scannell, and Melanie Field. Grace Victoria Cox and James Scully are playing Veronica and J.D. Original HEATHERS star Shannen Doherty makes a guest appearance in the pilot, which was directed by Leslye Headland.

The Heathers series had been developed for TV Land, but went over so well with the higher-ups at TV Land owner Viacom that they decided to move it over to the soon-to-launch Paramount Network (a re-branded Spike TV; the name and programming change is coming in January.)

Heathers will premiere on the Paramount Network in the first quarter of 2018, just in time for the 30th anniversary of the film. A teaser has now arrived online, released through social media accounts on Instagram and Twitter, which seems appropriate for a high school show. The teaser can be seen below… and yes, it does feature the most popular line from the original film.
