I suppose ‘remake’ is a harsh word. As Variety puts it, it’s a ‘reimagining’ of the 1978 film originally starring Amy Irving, Kirk Douglas, and John Cassavetes. The film was based on a book by John Farris… but the ‘reimagining’ is based on the movie, and the not the original source material, so… I suppose it IS a remake, afterall!
The new FURY is set to go something like this: a young man with heightened kinetic powers is abducted by the government in order to take advantage of his special gifts. Which is a hard cry from the original, which went like this: a government agent is determined to come to his son’s rescue, when a sinister official kidnaps him to harbor his extremely powerful psychic abilities.
See how the ‘reimagning’ takes it to a whole new level? Sheesh… Anyway, no director has been set up yet as the script is currently being worked on, but it’s only a matter of time before director and cast members are announced. Stick around for more on THE FURY, and if you haven’t already, now would be a good time to check out the original!
