The Righteous Gemstones renewed for season 3 at HBO

Danny McBride’s The Righteous Gemstones will be returning for season 3 at HBO. It has been announced that the cable network has renewed the series for a new season after the second that’s currently airing, per “Deadline.” The early renewal comes after said second season debuted this month to positive reception. The season 2 finale is set to air on February 27, 2022.

The Righteous Gemstones is a comedy that follows a famous televangelist family. This marks Mcbride’s third show for HBO, following the success of Eastbound and Down and Vice Principals. McBride stars on the series, alongside Adam Devine, Edi Patterson, John Goodman, Cassidy Freeman, Tony Cavalero, Tim Baltz, Skyler Gisondo, Greg Alan Williams, Walton Goggins, Jennifer Nettles, Valyn Hall, Kelton DuMont, Gavin Munn, Jason Schwartzman, Eric Roberts, Eric Andre, and Jessica Lowe. HBO exec VP of programming Amy Gravitt had this to say about the renewal:

“After a season of literal fire and brimstone, blood, sand and rollerblading, who wouldn’t come back for more? The Gemstone family makes us laugh like nobody else.”

Executive produced by McBride, Jody Hill, and David Gordon Green, The Righteous Gemstones joins HBO’s roster of original comedies that includes A Black Lady Sketch Show, Avenue 5, Barry, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Somebody Somewhere, and The White Lotus.
