The Russos talk the scale of Endgame and filming with IMAX cameras

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

With less than two weeks to go until the release of AVENGERS: ENDGAME, you can bet that Marvel has kicked the film's hype machine into Ludicrous Speed, as we barrel toward the epic conclusion of Thanos' attack on the MCU. On Tuesday afternoon, Marvel unveiled a new interview with Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who in the footage talk about the colossal scale of their latest film as well as the thrill of filming in IMAX. As per their enthusiasm for the ALEXA IMAX 65mm camera that was used to shoot Endgame, the Russos urge anyone looking to experience the best version of the film to see it in IMAX, where all of its glory can be seen and heard.

“For movies like this with cosmic settings and larger-than-life characters, there is no better way to shoot it, and there’s no better way to display it for an audience.” says Joe Russo with regard to capturing the action of Marvel's magnum opus with the ALEXA rig.

“The epic scale of these movies requires a canvas like that,” added Anthony Russo, lending credence to his brother's sentiments about the top-quality tech.

As per today's press release:

AVENGERS: ENDGAME is only the second Hollywood film to be shot exclusively with IMAX cameras (the first was for AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR) and it features IMAX expanded aspect ratio. That means only in IMAX will audiences experience the full scale and emotion of this finale – the way the Russo Brothers intended. The crystal-clear images will fill the IMAX screen for the entire film, showing up to 26% more picture than what audiences see in standard theatres. Add IMAX’s heart-pounding audio to the mix, and this is one cinematic event that fans cannot afford to miss.

Alas, my Thursday evening tickets are only good for the AVX experience, so I guess I'll just have to see AVENGERS: ENDGAME again in IMAX. After all, the past decade and then some has been leading to this moment, and I definitely want to ride that roller coaster while in the front seat. What are your plans for seeing AVENGERS: ENDGAME? Were you lucky enough to secure IMAX tickets? Will you see the film again knowing that there will (technically) be more of it on IMAX screens? How pumped are you to see Steve Rogers, Captain Marvel, and the rest of Earth's Mightiest Heroes kick Thanos' wrinkly purple ass back to Titan? Let us know in the comments section below.
