The Snow White fight begins with a search for evil queens like Julia Roberts and Charlize Theron

For the moment, fairy tale movies are still the craze in Hollywood, but the big race right now is between dueling SNOW WHITE movies.

Universal is moving ahead with SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, from writer Evan Daugherty and commercial director Rupert Sanders, while Relativity has the 3D version THE BROTHERS GRIMM: SNOW WHITE with Tarsem Singh (THE CELL, THE FALL) behind the camera. Both are gearing up for a start in early 2011, so the hunt is underway for appropriate humans for the familiar characters.

According to Deadline, Relativity wants the terrifying chompers of Julia Roberts for their wicked queen, while Universal is closing in on Charlize Theron for their own variation of the narcissistic villainess (although Theron’s participation may be contingent on whether she takes a major role in Clint Eastwood’s Hoover biopic).

Meanwhile, the quest for the beauteous envy-inducing leading ladies continues (Universal reportedly wants the increasingly in-demand Michael Fassbender for their Huntsman).
