The Sparks Brothers: Edgar Wright’s pop band documentary gets June release

Are you ready to go on an epic journey fueled by the sights and sounds of the influential indie electronica pop band Sparks? I certainly hope so because Edgar Wright's documentary The Sparks Brothers opens on June 18, 2021, in North American theaters.

The Sparks Brothers documentary chronicles the five-decade journey of the influential but often overlooked group that you might say is your favorite band’s favorite band, still drawing influential crowds to their shows. Inspired by Wright’s first encounter with Sparks as a kid watching them on the UK show Top of the Pops, the documentary features interviews with the L.A. duo as well as fans Flea, Beck, Jack Antonoff, Jason Schwartzman, Neil Gaiman, and more.

The Sparks Brothers had its world premiere back in February at this year's Sundance Film Festival. As it happens, our own Chris Bumbray was in attendance and got to experience the documentary for himself. In his review, he says it's hard not to fall in love with the Mael brothers, who make up the iconic band. He also notes that Wright had amassed enough material for a whole limited series, and he hopes to see a director's cut down the line.

While you're waiting for Edgar Wright's Last Night in Soho, why not check out The Sparks Brothers when the band begins to play on this Summer?
