Here’s a clip from Frank Miller’s THE SPIRIT that was shown at San Diego’s Comic Con. It tosses The Spirit (Gabriel Macht) and The Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) together in a river of what appears to be human feces. Toilet humor is involved, quite literally.
Is THE SPIRIT supposed to be a comedy? Because it plays like a Bugs Bunny cartoon. I don’t know if Will Eisner’s influential comic was this lighthearted or not, but I’ve got to wonder if any of it took place in a shit-filled sewer. All signs point to this being a ridiculous travesty (I think the laughs you hear in the audience are more of the “I guess I’m supposed to laugh so I’ll be polite” variety).
