Released around the same time as Dazed and Confused, the ’70s-set 1994 stoner comedy The Stoned Age was greatly overshadowed by that ’70s-set Richard Linklater stoner classic – but many fans of Dazed and Confused were also drawn to The Stoned Age, especially since the distributor had the audacity to give the quote “Better than Dazed and Confused” prominent placement on the front of the VHS box. I don’t share the opinion of that quoted critic, but I do think that The Stoned Age is a really fun movie in its own right. It’s a damn shame that it has never been given a Blu-ray release up to this point – but now, the Vestron Video Collector’s Series is making up for that oversight by giving the film a Blu-ray release on April 20th! Get it? 4/20.

Copies are available for pre-order from Lionsgate Limited.

The Stoned Age

Directed by James Melkonian, who also wrote the screenplay with Rich Wilkes, The Stoned Age follows Hubbs and Joe, in pursuit of partying and girls in Torrance, California, one Saturday night. When they hear about an epic rager going on near the beach, Hubbs and Joe head over, setting in motion a comedic adventure of rad proportions. Hubbs gets the girl! The cops show up! An ex-con loses his temper! And…Joe’s mind gets blown in the gnarliest way imaginable. Featuring a killer lineup of iconic ’70s rock bands.

Bradford Tatum, Michael Kopelow, China Kantner, Renee Allman, Clifton Collins Jr., Kevin Kilner, Taylor Negron, Michael Wiseman, and Jake Busey star, with an appearance by Frankie Avalon.
