Marc Abraham, producer of such flicks as the DAWN OF THE DEAD remake and SLITHER, revealed some big news about the planned “remake” of John Carpenter’s classic 1982 horror freakshow, THE THING. Well, what we thought was a remake…
“This is more of a prequel than a sequel, there is your exclusive. Its going to be taking place in the same time frame.”
“These are the events leading up to the 1982 film.”
Fans of Carpenter’s film know that means it’ll most likely deal with the Norwegian team who first discovers the pesky extraterrestrial. At the beginning of THE THING, a Norwegian helicopter chases “the thing” – disguised as a dog – to an American research station… You’ve got to figure that if this prequel ends that way, they’ll then work on a proper remake. (groan…)
While his name isn’t mentioned, I’m assuming this is the same THING that Universal had hired Ronald D. Moore (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA) to write about two years ago… All I know is, this project won’t be worth shit on a stick if Rob Bottin isn’t involved. The man hasn’t worked in years – this would be a lovely coming home for him.
