Good news for fans of THE WICKER MAN – the original, of course – as its companion piece, THE WICKER TREE, has found distribution. Anchor Bay Entertainment has purchased the North America and U.K. rights. We may see a release as early as this fall.
Although not a direct sequel to the 1973 classic, THE WICKER TREE explores similar themes. The film is written and directed by WICKER MAN helmer, Robin Hardy, as based on his novel Cowboys For Christ, and re-unites him with star Sir Christopher Lee.
No word on whether or not Lee reprises his role or if it’s a new one. He is joined by Graham McTavish, Clive Russell, Honeysuckle Weeks, Henry Garrett, Callum Mitchell, Jacqueline Leonard, Prue Clarke, James Mapes, Keith Warwick, Brittania Nicol, Iain Stuart Robertson and Christopher Leveaux.
Young Christians Beth and Steve, a gospel singer and her cowboy boyfriend, leave Texas to preach door-to-door in Scotland . When, after initial abuse, they are welcomed with joy and elation to Tressock, the border fiefdom of Sir Lachlan Morrison, they assume their hosts simply want to hear more about Jesus. How innocent and wrong they are.
