The Witcher is confirmed to be getting an anime film adaptation

While scores of fans are more than willing to toss a coin to Netflix's THE WITCHER, we've just learned that series creator Lauren S. Hissrich and producer Beau DeMayo are prepared to do much more than that.

It's recently been confirmed that Netflix has been developing a new Witcher anime film, titled THE WITCHER: NIGHTMARE OF THE WOLF. The upcoming animation hails from Studio Mir, the Korean animation firm that delivered such jaw-droppingly gorgeous and action-packed animated series as THE LEGEND OF KORRA and VOLTRON: LEGACY DEFENDER.

“I’ve been keeping this one secret for over a year!” Hissrich tweeted on Wednesday, confirming the series' development.

The fantasy series starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia has quickly risen to become Netflix's strongest TV debut to date. Moreover, the cast and crew of THE WITCHER are already making preparations for a second season, which is set to air sometime in 2021. Seeing as the Witcher anime has been in development for quite a while, there's a chance that it could arrive later this year, giving fans a much-needed dose of swords, sorcery, and Ciri's earth-shattering screams, before the live-action show makes its grand return.

While it's not been confirmed if Cavill will provide the voice of Geralt for the anime, a Netflix representative has shared that "the world of The Witcher will expands" as a result of the new feature, and that the events "will take us back to a new threat facing the Continent."

Could Studio Mir be gearing up to tell Geralt's origin story? Perhaps we'll get to see the hero's time spent while attending the School of the Wolf, a headquarters where Witchers learn their mystical trade? Your guess is as good as mine, but now that news of the anime is out in the wild, I wouldn't be surprised if Netflix announces more details sooner rather than later.
