There’s Something in the Barn trailer: holiday horror film reaches theatres in November

The Norwegian holiday horror movie There’s Something in the Barn is heading toward a November 10th theatrical release, and one month out from that date we’ve gotten our hands on a trailer for the film! You can check it out in the embed above.

Directed by Magnus Martens from a screenplay written by Aleksander Kirkwood Brown, There’s Something in the Barn is described as being “an ambitious artistic bridge between American classics and Norwegian mythology” that is like “Gremlins meets Home Alone meets National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation“. The story follows a typical American family who inherits a farm in the Norwegian mountains and crosses paths with a tricky creature from Nordic folklore, the Barn Elf. The family must avoid incurring the wrath of this gnome-like Santa by eschewing all bright lights and loud noises and making sure to leave a bowl of porridge on Christmas Eve.

The film is a reunion for stars Martin Starr (Freaks and Geeks) and Amrita Acharia (Game of Thrones), as both previously had roles in the Norwegian horror comedy Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead. Also in the cast are Jeppe Beck Laursen (Dead Snow), Calle Hellevang Larsen (Snøfall), Paul Monaghan (The Frankenstein Chronicles), Kiran Shah (Andor), Henriette Steenstrup (Ragnarok), Zoe Winther-Hansen (The 12th Man), Alexander Karlsen El Younoussi (Olympiatroppen), and newcomer Townes Bunner.

There’s Something in the Barn was produced by 74 Entertainment, with XYZ Films executive producing and co-financing.

Magnus Martens’ previous directing credits include United, Jackpot, SAS: Red Notice, and episodes of the TV shows Banshee, 12 Monkeys, Power, Luke Cage, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Longmire, Furia, Fear the Walking Dead, and The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

As I’ve said before, the combination of “Gremlins meets Home Alone meets National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” is a winner if I ever heard one, as I have been a fan of all of those movies since childhood… which is when they were all first released. Judging by the trailer, it looks to me like There’s Something in the Barn is going to make for an entertaining viewing.
