These are the 10 remaining contenders in the VFX Oscar race



Do you think CAPTAIN AMERICA deserves a shot at the Best VFX Oscar this year for its fairly impressive depiction of a small and wimpy Chris Evans? Or will the rest of the film’s pretty sub-par effects take it out of contention?

I guess similar questions could be lobbed at the rest of the remaining contenders for this year’s VFX Oscar. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced the following films, five of which will go on to be the official Oscar nominees for the year:

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER
HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS – PART 2
HUGO
MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES
REAL STEEL
RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES
TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON
THE TREE OF LIFE
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

So who’s out? Who are your faves and who do you just not give a shit about? My money’s on RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES should Andy Serkis himself not get some sort of specific recognition, be it through a Supporting Actor nod or some special award.
