Here’s something that could almost be described as a film noir version of TRICK ‘R TREAT, which tickles me just fine. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Risky Business blog, indie company Roberts/David Films is prepping a “three-tiered feature” called THE THRILLERS. The company has optioned three well-known short stories and plans on intertwining them in the film adaptation, with three different directors at the helm of each story. Pretty damned ambitious – and potentially very, very awesome.
Here’s a rundown of the crime stories being adapted:
– Harlan Ellison’s “Killing Bernstein” concerns a toy company executive who kills a female colleague whom he suspects is trying to sabotage his career…however, she turns up at work the next morning just fine.
– Janet Fitch’s “The Method” is about an actor who tries to manipulate another actor into killing a third.
– James Crumley’s “Hot Springs” follows five men who end up killing each other while waiting to see whose baby a beautiful teen is giving birth to.
Reminds me of some of the noirish segments from “Tales from the Crypt”… Lorena David (producer on DARK RIDE) will write and direct the Ellison segment, George Esguerra (“Talk to Me”) will adapt Fitch’s, and Brandon David (“Bristol Boys”) will tackle the Crumley tale.
