The guys over at Screen Daily just got the good word on a trio of names set to star in the supernatural romp: Rebecca Hall, Dominic West and Imelda Staunton. Alright… that’s cool. At first glance these names seem like nobodies but chances are you’ve actually seen these three many times without even realizing it. Sure, they’re not huge names, but THE AWAKENING isn’t looking like a huge flick.
Coming from StudioCanal Features, BBC Films and Scottish Screen, THE AWAKENING will start filming this June from a script by director Nick Murphy and Stephen Volk.
Set in post-World War I England in 1921, the film follows a skeptical woman who travels to a countryside boarding school to investigate rumours of an apparent haunting. Just when she thinks she has debunked the ghost theory, she has a chilling spectral encounter which defies all her rational beliefs.
Not too shabby. This shite actually sounds pretty chilling. Maybe we’ve actually got a supernatural flick on our hands that can potentially be scary! It’s been a while since we’ve seen one of those, hasn’t it? Producer David Thompson had the following to say regarding the project:
“This is a riveting and very original script and we are thrilled that it is to be directed by Nick Murphy as his first feature.”
