Three new clips from George Romero’s Survival of the Dead

Despite getting critically clobbered by most in the horror community (our man Arrow’s review no exception), I couldn’t really live with myself if I didn’t give George Romero’s SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD at least a once-through. And since the flick is inching closer to its April 30th DVD release, not to mention a May 28th theatrical run, three new clips from the film have just hit the deck. If you have a few moments, they’re underneath!

Treading familiar territory, SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD is set on an island off the coast of North America, where local residents simultaneously fight a zombie epidemic while hoping for a cure to return their un-dead relatives back to their human state.

In the first clip, entitled “Try it Now,” watch a zombie get its eyes popped out via fire extinguisher. Or another catch a bullet clean in the dome-piece.

Clip two, called “Ferry,” see one of our heroes swim through zombie infested waters in hopes of reaching a boat safely. Not only that, our man has to duck and dodge supposed friendly fire while doing his best Michael Phelps.

Third up, known as “Flare,” witness a zombie catch a lit flare plum in the chest as he gets too close to one of our leads.

All good fun, even if nothing revolutionary. Man oh man, I really wish directors like Romero (and other once greats like Carpenter) could muster one last great film. If nothing else, just to prove they haven’t slipped into a sad, effete shadow of their former selves.

Here’s to hoping!
