Three Thousand Years of Longing teaser trailer showcases George Miller’s mad genius

George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road) is at it again, folks, and this time he’s taking us on a fantasy adventure filled with mythology, Djinn, and beguiling wishes made real. Get ready for Miller’s Three Thousand Years of Longing teaser trailer, which plays like a Caligula fever dream that will make you sweat. Remember that this is merely a teaser and that the full trailer arrives this Friday.

In the Three Thousand Years of Longing teaser trailer, Miller presents a series of scenes that paint a vivid picture of outrageous things to come. My recommendation is to slow the teaser down or pause every few frames to bask in the beauty and mystery of each setting and stunning visual.

Here’s the official synopsis for George Miller’s Three Thousand Years of Longing:

Dr. Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton) is an academic – content with life, and a creature of reason. While in Istanbul attending a conference, she happens to encounter a Djinn (Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom.

This presents two problems. First, she doubts that he is real, and second, because she is a scholar of story and mythology, she knows all the cautionary tales of wishes gone wrong. The Djinn pleads his case by telling her fantastical stories of his past. Eventually, she is beguiled and makes a wish that surprises them both.

The film is directed by George Miller, who co-wrote the screenplay with Augusta Gore. Three Thousand Years of Longing is based on the short story “The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye” by A.S. Byatt. The film stars Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton and features music by Tom Holkenborg.

Don’t forget to come back this Friday when the full trailer for Three Thousand Years of Longing debuts.
