I guess it’s time to play “What’s Tim Burton’s Next Film?” again. We’ve heard it’s going to be DARK SHADOWS for over a year… Last week, we read that it would be THE ADDAMS FAMILY in 3D. That was quickly shot down. Now, we have another one that he’s absolutely, positively making next… Until it turns out he’s not.
AICN heard Disney producer Don Hahn speak at a SXSW screening, and according to him, the puppets are ready, the script is done and Burton is ready to move forward on FRANKENWEENIE 3D, which the filmmaker has been toying with for quite a while. (Back in October of 2007 there was chatter about the film being his next…)
Here’s the synopsis for the original short; presumably it will be the same for the feature:
When young Victor’s pet dog Sparky (who stars in Victor’s home-made monster movies) is hit by a car, Victor decides to bring him back to life the only way he knows how. But when the bolt-necked “monster” wreaks havoc and terror in the hearts of Victor’s neighbors, he has to convince them (and his parents) that despite his appearance, Sparky’s still the good loyal friend he’s always been.
No other details are available, other than it will be stop-motion animated. Does the success of ALICE IN WONDERLAND mean that Burton can do whatever he wants while at Disney, leading to this potential feature film version of his 1984 short film? Guess we’ll have to wait and see, as always…
