Tim Burton says Winona Ryder will return for Beetlejuice 2

Tim Burton has been making the rounds promoting his new movie BIG EYES, and while speaking with MTV News, confirmed Winona Ryder will be back as Lydia Deetz in the planned BEETLEJUICE sequel. Last year Ryder said she was involved with the project, but it's good to hear the director confirm the actress will return for BEETLEJUICE 2. Tim Burton and Winona Ryder recently worked together on a music video for The Killers song "Here with Me," and Burton says he was delighted to see her again.

I worked with [Ryder], I hadn’t seen her in awhile… and she was so great. I was so happy to see her. So those kinds of elements mean something to me. Michael, and her… and that character, I just miss it, there’s some freedom about that character that I love.

Burton also says he will be directing BEETLEJUICE 2, and recently said the film is "closer than ever" to actually happening.

Perhaps all the love Michael Keaton has received for his performance in BIRDMAN will help kickstart BEETLEJUICE 2. Part of me doesn't think a new BEETLEJUICE movie is a great idea, but I would love to see Keaton play the character again, and with Burton and Ryder also returning, I'm hopeful it won't be a disappointing sequel.

Tim Burton's BIG EYES starring Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams opens on December 25.
