Time to Boogey Again

Production Weekly scored some interesting (and frightening) news last night as it looks like a sequel to 2005’s CGI-Fest BOOGEYMAN is in the works.

Yes, you read right. They’re making a BOOGEYMAN 2. The flick’s to be directed by renowned editor Jeff Betancourt, whose editing skills have been seen in THE GRUDGE 2 and WHEN A STRANGER CALLS, in his directorial debut, with a script by Brian Sieve (AMBROSE FOUNTAIN). Excited for it yet? Check out the synopsis :

[BOOGEYMAN 2] centers on a young woman with a long-term phobia of the boogeyman, who voluntarily checks herself into a mental health facility with the hope of conquering her overwhelming fears. However, much to her horror, she discovers that some things are terrifying on purpose, and confronting her demons was not the best course of action.

At least they’re changing the scenario, and rockin’ the gender switch, which is all too common in these types of sequels. And by these types of sequels, I mean sequels made because the first one made money, not because the first one was any good or because the story actually merited a second chapter. I guess it shouldn’t surprise anyone that they’re going forward with a part 2, yet I still feel… surprised.

No word on whether it’ll go straight to video, or if it’ll actually go theatrical, so stick around as we find out. Ah, the mystery of pointless sequels… gotta love it. To check out the full scoop, go ahead and click HERE, and prepare for BOOGEYMAN 2, as it gears up for production late November.
