Timur Bekmambetov is a super busy man these days; the only problem is, he doesn’t know what he wants to direct next.
In an article about the director and his multiple projects over at Variety, it’s brought to light that Bekmambetov, who made it big in Russia with the NIGHT WATCH series, is toying with helming an English-language remake of THE BLACK LIGHTNING, a high-tech Russian movie he produced last year. The flick is about a student who, after receiving a beat up old car from his father, becomes a superhero after discovering that the car can fly. Universal co-produced the original and would be behind the remake.
Bekmambetov is also moving forward with ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER, which we last told you about in March. “This will be a serious but entertaining movie that deals with the most interesting and powerful person of the 19th century within an imaginary scenario that he was also an ax-wielding vampire hunter,” Bekmambetov said about the project.
There is still no definite date yet set for shooting, as no director is attached. Bekmambetov will produce alongside Tim Burton. The man is also overseeing THE DARKEST HOUR, the Moscow-set alien invasion thriller to be directed by Chris Gorak. Filming on that begins next month.
